A New Community Resource for Peaks Island

Spring has finally settled into Peaks Island, and after a long Maine winter, the whole island seems to be stretching awake again. Gardens are starting to come back to life, ferry trips are getting busier, bikes are reappearing from basements and sheds, and people are spending a little more time outside, stopping to talk and soak up the sun.
There is always something about this time of year that changes the rhythm of island life. We start carrying bags of mulch instead of bags of sidewalk salt. We notice who is back on the island for the season. We start checking weather apps less nervously. Even the birds seem louder somehow.
Over the next few months, the Peaks Island Health Association will share more seasonal reminders, practical information, community resources, and updates related to everyday life. Some posts will focus on health and wellness topics like walking safety, aging in place, mental health awareness, seasonal preparedness, and staying active. Others will highlight local programs, Neighbor to Neighbor, SMART Recovery, scholarships, educational events, and other resources available to island residents. Some will be just for fun!
Most importantly, we want this information to actually feel useful. The goal is not to flood people with medical jargon or formal announcements that disappear into the background. We want to create a steady source of readable, practical information that reflects real life on Peaks Island while supporting the health, well-being, and connection of the island community throughout the year.
We also hope this becomes a conversation. As these posts continue, we would love to hear from island residents about the things they are seeing, experiencing, wondering about, or simply enjoying around the island. Bird sightings, seasonal photos, community ideas, practical reminders, favorite walking spots, and everyday observations are all welcome.
These updates will also appear on the Peaks Island Health Association Facebook page and on Nextdoor as we continue building more ways for island residents to stay informed and connected.
We are excited to get started and look forward to sharing more in the weeks ahead.
